Proposed rate changes for the Russian River sanitation district

The Russian River County Sanitation District will hold a public hearing on May 21, 2024 at 9:45 a.m. at 575 Administration Drive, Room 102A, Santa Rosa to discuss proposed sewer service rate increases. If approved, new rates take effect July 1.

The increases aim to fund essential operations, maintenance, and system upgrades for the district.

Under the proposed changes, customers will face an annual sewer service charge of $2,292 per equivalent single-family dwelling, representing a $188 yearly increase, or approximately $15.67 monthly.

Residents are expressing frustration about affordability. One Rio Nido resident stated, “I think they are running us out of here” due to rising property taxes and inadequate infrastructure.

Another resident described it as “$1.50 a flush” this year.

In response to community concerns, the district offers a sanitation rate relief program providing 50 percent bill reductions for qualifying property owners.

Customers may protest increases by submitting written complaints using forms in recent customer newsletters.

Customers are encouraged to attend the May 21 hearing and may visit the facility on May 18 for a public tour.
